Welcome to Rayner En Route!
Hello lovely reader, my name is Rebecca Rayner, and I’m so excited that you’re here.
Hailing from a small Hampshire town in the south of England, I long dreamed of exploring the world and learning more about what’s out there beyond the manure scented summers of the British countryside.
My career goals as a journalist, however, kept me from realising my nomadic desires.
Instead of running away to the Amazon-like I’d longingly fantasised, I attended University and studied for a BA (Hons) In Music Journalism.
I spent the next few years freelancing and working as a nationally published music journalist (girl did good!) and suddenly I came to a realisation.
Why not combine my love of writing with my love of travel and adventure? Why shouldn’t I go out and explore the world whilst still following my passion to write?
And that was where Rayner En Route was born.
Flash forward to now and hey presto, i’m a professional nomad.
About Rayner En Route
How my travels started
So, my first foray into foreign travel wasn’t exactly an exciting tour through the Amazon Rainforest, or a glamours 5-star retreat in Dubai.
Actually, it was a bit of a disaster.
During University I worked at the Disney Store and was handed free passes to use at Disneyland Paris.
This, paired with my looming 21st birthday, turned out to be the perfect excuse to finally get my bum on a plane and over to France.
To cut a long story short, there was a lot of crying on that trip,
Crying with happiness at the Disneyland fireworks.
Crying with fear running through the night back to our hotel in a very dodgy Parisian neighbourhood (lesson learned, research the area before you book dum dum.)
I guess this is the trip that started it all, as disastrous as some of it was – it was still magical.
You can read more about my Paris plights on this blog post.
